Winchester Canoe Club is a club for everyone from those just starting out to the more experienced paddler.
So come and join us in the heart of Winchester.
Our club house has a wide variety of boats (slalom, sea and touring kayaks, sit on tops, paddle boards and open canoes) as well as buoyancy aids, paddles, spray decks and helmets; so, it’s perfect for people to discover their preferences.
The club is open on Sunday mornings between 10am – 12.00 noon most weeks of the year, and also Tuesday evenings between 6pm – 8pm during the summer months.
If you would like more information or are interested in joining the club, please contact us via the website, or just drop by to watch a session when we are open.

Kayaking differs from canoeing in the style of paddle (kayaks use double-ended paddles) and you sit down in the kayak rather than kneel. Kayaking is the most popular activity at the club, and we can offer teaching and training in multiple disciplines.

A recent addition to our list of disciplines is Stand-up Paddleboarding (or SUP for short). Imagine wind surfing without a sail but with a Canadian single ended paddle. The club have SUP boards available for use and our instructors are happy to teach our members this skill and advise on suitable safety precautions.
Paddle boarding

Open canoeing or Canadian canoeing is one of the most flexible and versatile forms of paddling. Canoes are paddled with a single blade kept mainly on the same side. Once the steering skills are mastered, all sorts of options arise from daytrips with picnics to multiday camping trips, sailing and even whitewater.
Open Canoe

This is probably the original version of SUP paddling …, but you sit down and use a standard kayak paddle. Safe for beginners as they are more stable than SUP’s and you are not enclosed as with a kayak
Sit on top

In the past Canoe Slalom was a very active part of the club, and we have several slalom boats at the club house. We still use the stretch of water adjacent to the club house for practice and small events.

From Winchester we can easily reach some amazing sea kayaking and touring venues. Whether it’s exploring the creeks and beaches of the Solent coastline or ‘rock hopping’ along the cliffs and bays of Dorset or exploring our winding rivers, there is always something new to experience.
